When the publisher of Wednesday Journal, Dan Haley, a happy White Sox fan, advised me, a miserable Cubs fan, to write up a blog entry on Oak Park Youth Baseball and Softball’s 32nd Annual Sox Night fundraiser, I wanted to respectfully decline. But the Cubs currently stink, the Sox are in first place, he does sign the checks, and it is a fundraiser for the local baseball and softball organization to which two of my daughters play for.
So I’m (somewhat) happy to oblige.
Players from all divisions of OPYB/S will get the opportunity to set foot on U.S. Cellular Field on Wednesday night before the White Sox take on the Blue Jays. Those participating in the fundraiser, which had a deadline for ticket orders last month, will parade around the field with willing members of their respective teams, wearing their respective caps and uniforms. You may still be able to snatch-up a ticket or two. Call Board President Dee Jeffries at 708-466-8096 for more information, but don’t tell him I referred you.
The parade march begins at 5:45 p.m. Players and coaches are to lineup at the Elephant Gate — near Gate 1.
In addition to local youth baseball and softball athletes being in attendance, Oak Park’s Pro Musica Youth Chorus will perform the National Anthem.
If you care to stick around for the game that is likely to be more interesting than anything happening on the North Side at any time this season, the first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
The Cubs will be in Milwaukee taking on another sub-.500 team.
