DSW, the designer shoe warehouse, opened Thursday morning in the space that formally housed Linens-n-Things in the River Forest Town Center.
“It was a great day for River Forest today,” said village trustee Cathy Adduci. “It is with great pride we welcome our newest retailer, Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW), to our village,” she said via email.
Adduci said she helped cut the grand opening ribbon with the store manager, regional manager and district manager. She was even the first customer to buy a pair of shoes.
The store fills the 27,000-square-foot spot that has been vacant since Linens closed in 2008. Village Administrator Eric Palm has said it was a challenging space to fill because of its location in the back corner of the complex and its large size. But the sales tax generated will eventually add to the tax base, Palm has said.
