Terrence B. “Terry” Rice, 75, of Oak Brook, a longtime Oak Parker and owner of the former Foley-Rice Cadillac dealership, died on Jan. 6, 2025, surrounded by family.
He lived most of his life in Chicago’s western suburbs. After graduating from Fenwick High School (class of 1967), he attended John Carroll University, graduating in 1971. He married the love of his life, Kathy, in June of 1974. He made his living in the car business, most notably as principal dealer of Foley-Rice Cadillac-Oldsmobile for over 20 years. His success was the result of hard work, dedication, and a moral obligation to do right by others.
A crossword puzzle enthusiast with a wealth of knowledge, he was not shy with opinion or advice, perhaps a bit stubborn but truly with a heart of gold. He was the number one fan of many, first and foremost his grandchildren. He loved baseball and bled Cubbie blue. He enjoyed the game of golf and friends marveled at his touch around the green. He loved rock-and-roll music, played it loud, and enjoyed sharing it with family, especially on cross-country road trips. A longtime parishioner at St. Giles, he was a devoted supporter of his alma maters and charitable institutions like Misericordia.
His joy and warmth were infectious. He treasured the company he kept, evidenced by a friends group celebrating New Year’s together for 60 years and counting. He was not short on stories, had incredible recall and a knack for nicknames. He was a rock star in his own right. His family and friends will miss him dearly.
Terry was the husband of Kathleen (née Buckley) for 50 years; the father of Jessica Richardson, Katie (Ed) Glavinskas, Margaret, and Stephen (Colleen Kelly); papa of Emily, Jack, Madeline, Bridget, Ava, Marty, and Bea; brother of Jim (Pat), Mike (Geri), Janet (Don) Cottler, Peggy Hennessy, and Kevin (Matthew); brother-in-law of Candy Rice; and uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Tim, his sister Pam, and his parents Jim and Anita.
Visitation was held on Sunday, Jan. 12 at Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home. The funeral Mass was celebrated on Jan. 13 at St. Giles Church. Interment took place in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
