James A. McGreevy, 74, died on Friday, Oct. 13, 2023 at his home in Oak Park. Born on Aug. 8, 1949 in Oak Park to the late Alan McGreevy and Marilyn Mcguinn McGreevy Tyznik, he graduated from St. Giles School, and went on to attend Quigley North in Chicago with an additional year at Oak Park and River Forest High School. He spent several years in the U.S. Coast Guard at Yorktown, Virginia; Cape May, New Jersey; and Port Huron, Michigan. He later graduated from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a degree in Journalism and relocated to Oak Park, working as a successful broadcast and television producer at JTC, then for a well-known TV program for 14 years.

He and Bette enjoyed many yearly European and U.S. trips over the years, particularly loving Britain and Maui.

A very talented musical artist, he enjoyed movies and music, singing and playing self-taught guitar for weddings, gatherings, etc. He also enjoyed going to the lake with Bette and volunteered at the Red Door Animal Shelter and the Chicago Houserabbit Society.

Jim is survived by his life partner of 52 years, Bette Wojta; his sister, Judith, and brother-in-law Bob Steed; his nieces, Bridget and Kathryn Steed; and numerous friends.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Zimmerman-Harnett Funeral Home, 7319 W. Madison St., Forest Park, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Hospital or any pet charity of the donor’s choice.
