The Fenwick High School wrestling team placed second at the IHSA Class 2A regional at Fenton High School on Feb. 5 with 188 points, 31 behind victorious St. Patrick.

The Friars had a strong showing, advancing 10 individuals to the sectional, which will take place at Deerfield High School on Feb. 12.

Fenwick had three wrestlers win their weight classes. At 138 pounds, senior Tommy Sullivan (22-10) defeated Justin Dickeson of Fenton via a 3-1 decision. Senior Conor Paris (25-4) won the 182-pound title via pin over Jack Clancy of St. Patrick and senior Jimmy Liston (30-3) pinned Schurz’s Danny Ortiz to win at 285.

Others advancing to Deerfield for the Friars were Aidan Burns (3rd, 132), Rowan White (2nd, 145), Finn McGee (2nd, 152), Martin Paris (2nd, 160), Vincent Fiorvanti (3rd, 170), Julian Richard (3rd, 195) and Conor Stetz (2nd, 220).

Trinity, Fenwick hoops earn top sectional seeds

The Trinity High School basketball team was awarded the top seed last week for the IHSA Class 3A Sectional hosted by Fenwick, which is seeded second.

The Blazers (13-11) placed fourth at last week’s Girls Catholic Athletic Conference tournament, continuing a long stretch of solid play which includes a 43-37 victory over the Friars on Feb. 1. Sophomore Lauren Miller had 19 points and five rebounds while junior Cierra Richardson added 10 points, two steals and two assists.

Meanwhile, Fenwick (17-10) rebounded from the Trinity loss with a pair of wins — 47-20 over Resurrection on Feb. 4 and a 36-27 win over Providence Catholic on Feb. 5. Mira Schwanke had 14 points against the Resurrection, and Mia Caccitolo had 14 points against the Providence. Caccitolo, Schwanke and Audrey Hinrichs were named to the GCAC All-Conference Team.

The Friars’ last regular-season home game in coach Dave Power’s career will be against Oak Park and River Forest High School on Feb. 10.

Trinity bowlers 4th at regionals

The Trinity High School bowling team placed fourth at the IHSA Leyden Township Regional on Feb. 5 with a score of 3,898 pins. The result enabled the Blazers to advance to the Hinsdale South sectional, which takes place on Feb. 12.

Senior Isabella Saviozzi was Trinity’s top bowler at Leyden, knocking down 963 pins in her six games. The Blazers also got contributions from senior Cyanne Alvarez (883 pins), junior Abigail Justak (759), junior Maisy Keith (654) and senior Rebecca Ryan (639).

Fenwick High School, as well as a few individual bowlers from Oak Park and River Forest High School, also competed at Leyden.

The Friars, who finished seventh with 3,600 pins, advanced two individuals to the sectional. Freshman Olivia Cameron placed fourth among individuals with a six-game series of 1,205, while senior Lorelei Kotwasinski was 19th with 858 pins.

The Huskies placed ninth with a score of 3,203 and also advanced two individuals to Hinsdale South — freshman Gracie Maidlow (13th, 964 pins) and junior Audrey Maidlow (22nd, 785).
