Seven people were arrested late last month – three suspected of burglary and four for armed robbery – by Oak Park police.

A man, a woman and a juvenile were arrested on May 25 and charged with committing a number of garage and motor vehicle burglaries in northeast Oak Park. And a man and three juveniles were taken into custody on May 26 under suspicion of committing armed robbery in south Oak Park.

Police say Dvontae M. Walker, 18, of the 1000 block of N. Harlem Avenue, and three juveniles – two who are 16 and one who is 17, from Oak Park and River Forest – approached a man in the 1100 block of S. East Avenue who was riding his bicycle home from work in Berwyn.

The group was in a SUV and the driver exited the vehicle, displayed a handgun, and the other occupants of the vehicle also exited and demanded the victim’s possessions. The man gave up his cell phone and a backpack, which contained clothing, credit and debit cards and other items.

Police later arrested the four, charging Walker with aggravated robbery and each of the juveniles with one count of armed robbery.

Police also have arrested Larry T. Walker, 29, of the 4800 block of West St. Paul Avenue, and DeyMarie Cotto-Rivera, 20, of the 2700 block of N. Ridgeway Avenue. They were both charged with four counts of burglary in connection with burglaries that occurred in the 1100 block of North Harvey Avenue, 200 block of LeMoyne Parkway, 1200 block of North Lombard and 100 block of Rossell Avenue. The juvenile arrested was released to a parent, police said.

When the group was arrested on May 25 in the alley between the 1100 block of North Harvey and Ridgeland, they were found in possession of items that were later determined to be stolen, along with a flashlight and crowbar police believe were used in the burglaries.

Public indecency

On June 3 at about 10 a.m., a white male between the ages of 44 and 55 and standing about 6 feet tall, with a medium build, partially gray hair and wearing eyeglasses, a sleeveless gray shirt and black shorts, exposed his genitals to a woman and her son who were walking southbound in the 800 block of S. East Avenue. The man then fled in an unknown direction.

Theft of motor vehicle

A 2008 silver Chevy Impala was stolen from the first block of Harrison Street on June 4 at 4:53 a.m. The victim, an Oak Park resident, left the car running while inside a business, when a man entered the unlocked vehicle and drove away. The loss was an estimated $10,000.

Aggravated driving under the influence arrest

Juan Cueto, 36, of the 6000 block of Ridge in Berkeley, was arrested on June 2, at 7:16 p.m. in the 500 block of Madison and charged with aggravated driving under the influence, aggravated driving while license revoked, possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence of drugs, among other charges. He was stopped for having left the scene of a motor vehicle crash.

These items, obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, came from reports, May 20-25, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
