Geraldine A. “Gerri” Brauneis, 85, of Oak Park, died on Feb. 29, 2016. Born on Sept. 10, 1930, she was a graduate of Stanford University and Chicago-Kent College of Law and practiced family law for many years in the Chicago area.
“Being next door neighbors to Gerri and Bill for 41 years,” the Carrillo family wrote online, “we were able to witness Gerri´s incredible warmth as a human being and her untiring spirit in the fight for social justice on many different levels.”
Gerri Brauneis was the wife of William C. “Bill” Brauneis; the mother of Robert (Ulrike), James (Laurie), Steven (Masako) and Laura (William Rentz) Brauneis; the grandmother of Elizabeth and William J. Brauneis, Kate Brauneis-Krull, Kai and Sho Brauneis, and Sophia-Marie Rentz; and the daughter of the late Robert and Jean Riddell.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday March 2, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion St., in Oak Park. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon at St. Giles Church, 1045 Columbian Ave., in Oak Park, followed by interment at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie.
