Robbery reported on Fair Oaks in Oak Park

An Oak Park resident was robbed in the 1100 block of Fair Oaks Avenue at 10:35 p.m. on Aug. 8, according to Oak Park police. 

The offender allegedly tackled the victim and removed the victim’s wallet, headphones and an HTC smart phone. The offender was last seen headed northbound on Fair Oaks Avenue. The total loss was $684.

 Theft of a motor vehicle

A 2009 dark gray Hyundai Accent was stolen from the 800 block of North Hayes Avenue sometime between 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 9 and 3:05 a.m. on Aug. 10, according to Oak Park police. The loss was estimated at $3,550.

A dark blue 2014 Jeep Patriot was stolen from the 1000 block of Ontario Street between 9 p.m. on Aug. 9 and 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 10, according to Oak Park police. The vehicle was parked on the street and valued at $19,000. 

 Attempted motor vehicle theft

A car thief attempted to steal a 2006 silver Dodge Caravan in the 100 block of South Taylor Avenue between 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 9 and 8:20 a.m. on Aug. 10, according to Oak Park police. 

The offender broke the door glass with a rock and then damaged the steering column and tampered with the vehicle’s ignition once inside, but failed to steal the vehicle. The loss was estimated at $200.

 Criminal damage to property

An unknown person stole the chains off of playground swings at Longfellow Elementary School in the 700 block of South Highland Avenue sometime between 10 a.m. on Aug. 1 and 10:15 a.m. on Aug 10, according to Oak Park police. They also scrawled expletives on the metal poles supporting the swings, police report. 

 Burglary to garage

A residence in the 1100 block of Wenonah Avenue was burglarized between 10 p.m. on Aug. 9 and 9 a.m. on Aug. 10, according to Oak Park police. The offender entered the garage of the residence through a side service door and stole a silver men’s Giant/Cypress bicycle valued at $100.

A residence in the 900 block of Hayes Avenue was burglarized between 7:05 a.m. and 6:40 p.m. on Aug. 10, according to Oak Park police. The offender entered the garage through a side door and stole a black and silver Craftsman lawnmower valued at $200.

 Burglary to motor vehicle

A red Ford Mustang was burglarized in the 400 block of North Austin Boulevard sometime between 5:20 a.m. and 5:25 a.m. on Aug. 7, according to Oak Park police. 

The offender broke the front driver’s side window and stole a black and silver 50-watt vaporizer pen, a red and white Calvin Klein purse and a red and white Calvin Klein wallet. The total loss was estimated at $580.

 Burglary arrest

Donna Grant, 50, of the 400 block of North Lawler Avenue in Chicago, was arrested for a burglary that took place in the 200 block of South Maple Avenue. 

Grant was arrested in the 1000 block of Lake Street at 12:36 a.m. on Aug. 7, according to Oak Park police. Grant also had outstanding warrants for financial exploitation and a parole violation, police report. She also was charged with obstruction of identification and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

 These items, obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, came from reports filed Aug. 4-11 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
