John V. O’Hara, 84, a 30-year resident of River Forest, died at his home on Feb. 8, 2014. Born in Chicago on Oct. 25, 1929 to Charles and Lillian O’Hara, he graduated from Oak Park’s Fenwick High School and received his bachelor and master degrees fromĀ
Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.Ā
He served with the U.S. Army in Korea, and until his retirement in 1987, he worked as a supervisor for the Cook County Juvenile Court Probation Department. Ā
John O’Hara is survived by his brother, Leonard (the late Sally) O’Hara; his nieces and nephews, Saren O’Hara (Daniel Stafford), John (Mary Lou) O’Hara, Brian O’Hara, Liz O’Hara (Jim Shinker), Mary (Dan) Hanrahan, and William O’Hara; his great-nieces and nephews, Daniel (Olenka) Barry, Kathryn (Aaron) DuMoulin, Charles and Jack O’Hara, Molly, Laura, Bonnie and Anne Hanrahan, and Meagan Shinker; and his four great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles “Bill” and Lillian O’Hara; his siblings, Margaret (the late Michael) Curtin and Charles (Irene) O’Hara; and his nephew, Charles O’Hara III.Ā
Visitation was held at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home in Oak Park on Feb. 11. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Feb. 12 at St. Vincent Ferrer Church in River Forest, followed by interment with military honors at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.Ā
