Congratulations to OPRF senior guard Erick Locke, the Wednesday Journal Player of the Week sponsored by Midtown Athletic Club.

Locke dominated the action at the 11th annual Bill VandeMerkt Boys Basketball Tournament. The OPRF senior point guard earned MVP honors as the Huskies went 4-0 to win the prestigious tourney at Riverside-Brookfield High School.

In the title game, Locke shredded the host Bulldogs for 31 points, seven assists and six steals in the Huskies’ convincing 84-71 victory.

“I’ve tried to sharpen up my point guard skills,” Locke said. “I just go with the flow of the game and pick my spots when to take over.”

Locke has scholarship offers from UIC, Valparaiso and Chicago State with multiple Division I basketball programs also expressing interest.
