When the clock struck midnight Monday, Oak Parkers who failed to obtain a current vehicle sticker for their cars and trucks will have to pay a late fee or face the possibility of a ticket.

Midnight Monday was the deadline to purchase a vehicle sticker without penalty; every vehicle owned by an Oak Park resident must display a valid sticker or risk a $50 ticket. A $20 late fee now applies for those getting a sticker. Registration for vehicle stickers can be done at village hall or online.

The online renewal system will continue to function after midnight, but will automatically add the $20 late fee.

For more information, including rates for various types of vehicles, visit oak-park.us/parking, email parking@oak-park.us or call 708-358-7275, option 5.

The vehicle sticker deadline for River Forest residents has also passed, but River Forest police are offering a one-week grace period and won’t ticket vehicles without stickers until Tuesday, July 23.

At that time, offenders face a $30 ticket. The cost for stickers from July 16-Aug. 14 is an extra $10, while people getting stickers from Aug. 15-Oct. 15 face an extra $15 fee. Those registering after Oct. 15 will face a $20 fee. Stickers were available prior to deadline for $45 (cars) and $50 (trucks).

River Forest law requires all vehicles registered and primarily housed in town to have a current vehicle sticker, including cars that are rarely driven or kept in a garage. Stickers are available by mail, online at www.vfr.us or at village hall, 400 Park Ave.
