Dr. Panton is board-certified in ophthalmology. He is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and The American College of Surgeons. A graduate of Brown University Medical School in Providence, Rhode Island, Dr. Panton completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of Chicago Medical Center, followed by a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. He served a fellowship in cornea and anterior segment surgery at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
A CMS member since 1987, Dr. Panton has served as secretary, vice-chairman of the Council, chairman of the Council, and president-elect. As CMS president-elect, Dr. Panton also served as chair of the Board of Trustees and Editorial Advisory Staff. He is a current delegate to the Illinois State Medical Society.
At the ISMS level, Dr. Panton serves on the Board of Trustees, and as a delegate to the ISMS House of Delegates. Dr. Panton is also a member of the American Medical Association.
He has been an admitting physician at Gottlieb since 1993, as is his brother, Peter J. Panton, MD, also an ophthalmologist.
A resident of River Forest, Dr. Panton and his wife Marika are the parents of three children.
