March 9-17 was National AmeriCorps Week and I want to give recognition to AmeriCorps members around the county for their dedicated service. I currently serve as a member of the Chicago Health Corps, a program that strives to increase access to health care services in Chicago.
As an AmeriCorps member, I serve at Seven Generations Ahead, a nonprofit in Oak Park whose mission is to build healthy and sustainable communities. In the past two years at SGA, I have engaged 3,500 people throughout the Chicago area in hands-on nutrition and gardening education.
Serving with the Chicago Health Corps at SGA has prepared me for a future career in nutrition and environmental education.
In the spirit of National AmeriCorps week, let’s celebrate 19 years of impactful national and community service.
