The most significant snowstorm so far of the winter season is expected to hit the Chicago area sometime Monday evening and into Tuesday.
Schools in Oak Park and River Forest are bracing for the storm, which is expected to dump 6-9 inches of snow on the city and surrounding suburbs over the next two days. All three local school districts — District 97 in Oak Park and District 90 in River Forest, and Oak Park and River Forest High School — will keep their families informed of possible early dismissals or cancelled days via their websites and social media. Families will also receive emails and phone calls from the schools.
Oak Park and River Forest schools closed for two days during the Feb., 2011 “Snowpocalypse” following a major blizzard that blanketed the city under two-feet of snow. Before that, it had been decades since a snow day was declared by either D97 or D200.
