I dug your snow column last week [Getting reacquainted with the white stuff, Ken Trainor, Viewpoints, Feb. 6]. To enjoy the free-falling snow says you enjoy the simple things, a key to happiness.
I got a call from my son, Jake, who retired July 31 of last year. He said he had been “looking forward to today” since last August. He said he rolled out of bed at 8 a.m., fired up the snowblower and blissfully plowed the driveway he shares with his neighbors, with but one tire track. I laughed, remembering how nice it always was to shovel or plow before the snow was trampled down.
When he worked for a living, he hated to have to plow when he came home at night, wanting a shower and a beer but knowing the sooner he got out there, the easier it would be to remove the snow. I told him how nice it was to enjoy and share such a simple thing.
It was a nice call along with the delight of seeing the winter wonderland nature had given us overnight.
