Oak Park police investigate graffiti incidents
Police believe several incidents involving blue and green spray paint on vehicles, garages and stop signs in southwest Oak Park over the weekend are related.
An unknown offender sprayed graffiti on two vehicles, a garage door, two stop signs and a fence in the 800 and 900 blocks of Harvard Street, the 900 and 1000 blocks of South Kenilworth Avenue and the 900 block of Clinton Avenue overnight May 11-12.
Burglary
Someone broke a rear pantry window to enter an apartment in the 1400 block of North Austin Boulevard on May 7. The offender ransacked the apartment and removed a Dinex 32-inch TV, a Dinex 42-inch TV, an Emerson 32-inch TV, an IBM laptop computer and $180 in cash. Estimated loss is $2,206.
An unknown person entered a residence in the 600 block of South Maple Avenue, the morning of May 8, ransacked it and removed an Apple iPad Touch and its leather case, a brown shoulder bag and $140 in cash. Estimated loss is $905.
Someone cut a screen to enter an apartment in the 1200 block of North Harlem Avenue, the morning of May 8, and removed an HP laptop computer, gold and silver jewelry and $150 in coins. Estimated loss is $1,250.
An unknown person entered a residence in the 200 block of Randolph Street, the morning of May 8, ransacked numerous rooms and removed a Western Digital passport hard drive. Estimated damage and loss is $450.
Someone removed a Redmax backpack leafblower from a Ford truck parked in the 300 block of South Oak Park Avenue, the afternoon of May 9. Estimated loss is $400.
An unknown person entered a residence in the 700 block of North Austin Boulevard, the morning or afternoon of May 8, and removed a Nintendo Wii system and miscellaneous games; an Xbox system, miscellaneous games and a headset; and a Magnavox VCR and DVD player. Estimated loss is $890.
Someone entered a garage in the 900 block of Fair Oaks Avenue, May 11-12 and removed a silver men’s Specialized Expedition bicycle. Estimated loss is $450.
An unknown person entered a garage in the 700 block of North Kenilworth Avenue between the afternoon and evening of May 11 and removed a gold Huffy women’s bicycle. Estimated loss is $250.
Theft
Someone removed a catalytic converter from underneath a 2003 Honda Element, parked in the rear of the 200 block of South Maple Avenue overnight, May 7-8. Estimated loss is $2,700.
An unknown person removed a UPS package from the common area inside an apartment building in the 800 block of Erie Street, the afternoon of May 8. The package contained a Dell lithium battery and a Dell adapter. Estimated loss is $208.
Someone removed the catalytic converter from a 2004 Honda Element parked in a lot in the 200 block of Chicago Avenue overnight, May 7-8. Estimated loss is $500.
An unknown person entered a locked storage room in the 1000 block of South Oak Park Avenue between the morning of May 7 and evening of May 9 and removed a Wet Saw. Estimated loss is $400.
Someone removed a Apple iPad left unattended in a classroom at Oak Park and River Forest High School in the 200 block of North Scoville Avenue, the afternoon of May 8.
A student at Concordia University told police he was working at the Koenecke Community Center, the morning of May 8, when he left his Apple iPhone at the front desk and later found it missing. Estimated loss is $400.
An unknown person removed a locked 18-speed, 26-inch Schwinn bicycle from the bike rack in the 300 block of South Wisconsin Avenue between the afternoons of May 8 and 13. Estimated loss is $400.
Drug possession/DUI
Police arrested an 18-year old Wilmington man driving recklessly, the evening of May 10, after they determined he tossed a hypodermic syringe full of a substance suspected to be heroin out of his car window in the 500 block of South Austin Boulevard. He was stopped in the 8000 block of the Eisenhower Expressway and was charged with possession of the syringe and fleeing and eluding an officer.
A 38-year-old Oak Park man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after he struck an eastbound car in the 1000 block of South Boulevard as he was backing out of a parking spot. His blood alcohol level was 0.134, over the legal limit of .08.
Criminal damage to property
Someone entered a residential building in the 1000 block of South Oak Park Avenue, the morning of May 13, and forced open a basement door. No loss was reported, but estimated damage is $400.
A 28-year-old Oak Park man was arrested, the evening of May 13, and charged with felony criminal damage to state-supported property after a police officer on the CTA platform in the 800 block of South Oak Park Avenue saw him using a pocket knife to carve letters into a sign.
These items were obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, May 8-14, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
