I feel bad for Val Fisher. After being elected 3 times to District 200’s Board she offers to fill the seat on the Board vacated by Jacques Conway ,a black guy who quit. The Board picks Val, and she probably thinks she’ll get an “attagirl” and some thanks for taking one for the team. No such luck. The Wednesday Journal was “not enthusiastic”, and Wyanetta Johnson of APPLE   predictibly weighs in that Val is white, and we need  a black person to serve on the Board.  ( By the way how long has Wannetta Johnson been the APPLE spokesperson . She’s been around longer than Andy Rooney.)

All you haters need to chill out. John Dewey and Horace Mann were not available. They’re dead. No one person is going to fix District 200’s public relations/image problems white or black. The achievement gap and alcohol/drug problem is not going to be solved by a more inspired  darker skinned pick.  Board service is long and difficult, and the pay is low as it can go. And  it is a thankless job. Ask Val Fisher.
