My name is Darrell. I live in Oak Park, and I’m writing this letter to let you know what I have experienced here.

I have experienced judgments, odd looks, strange stares. It is hard to meet people here. I have lived here for two years. I struggle with depression and eating disorders. I’m biracial, and I don’t fit in anywhere. I’ve tried churches, libraries, drop-in centers, the Volunteer Center, etc., etc., etc.

I planned on moving because of the experience that I have had here, but I hope to meet some open-minded people before I leave Oak Park forever.

I tried to start a support group for people who may be in my situation, who has no family or friends to talk to, no one to do things with. I would like to meet non-judgmental people who will accept me for me.

I would like for you to print this letter to other Oak Parkers to get feedback. I would like to start a group for young adults, such as myself, who struggle with life on a daily basis. I have low self-esteem. I have lost faith in people. I would like for people to restore my faith in humanity, to show good will toward each other.
