There was a time when I thought there was no hope for my hair. Honestly. Thick and unruly, not quite straight, not quite curly, and so much of it, I’ve actually lost things in it.
I once propped a pencil behind my ear, and when I tried to retrieve it, it was gone. I searched my desk, behind the computer, on the floor. Nothing. I later found it nestled inside my hair, which had swallowed it up whole.
I thought in college, unwisely, that if I cut it all off, there’d be better days ahead. Less fussing, less taming. But I was wrong. So wrong. My hair defies gravity, so it kind of looked like I was wearing a cake (or a nest like the one pictured here by designer Nagi Noda) on my head each morning when I woke up, until I wrestled it into a somewhat acceptable coif.
Then it happened. I found a product that solved all of my hair woes. Truly. Aveda hair care products have changed my life. O.k., maybe that’s taking it a bit too far, but they’ve altered the look of my hair significantly.
These fragrant products give you a fashion-forward look while supporting eco-friendly practices. They offer “hair care solutions”. I like the sound of that. Because after all, it’s important to be a part of the solution, right?
A Matter of Style American Salon and Day Spa in Oak Park (114 N. Marion Street) carries my favorite Aveda hair products. And the service there is unbelievable. The gals behind the counter are uber friendly and will take all the time in the world (no matter how busy they may be) to answer questions and make sure that you are leaving with the right product.
My favorite product is Aveda’s Light Elements Smoothing Fluid. It works like a charm. Even on rainy days. I used to dread those humid days, when my hair turned slowly into a wiry mane, frighteningly akin to a scouring pad, right before my very eyes. Today, I laugh my smooth little head of hair off at the rain.
Aveda products tame, seal, soften, moisturize – you name it, they’ve managed to package it into these little eco-friendly bottles (95% PCR).
Some more great reasons to love Aveda Corp:
- It is one of the largest purchasers of organic ingredients.
- It is the first beauty company functioning with 100% certified wind power.
- Responsible packaging includes maximizing the amount of post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials and minimizing packaging. They’re bottles are made from recycled milk, soda, and water bottles.
- They use naturally-derived ingredients, sourced from traditional communities around the world. You can trace Aveda’s products back to farms and harvesting co-ops: cistus from Spain, argan from Morocco, rose and lavender from Bulgaria, and uruku from Brazil are just some of the flower and plants that help yield these fragrant products.
As we welcome the rainy season, I am happy to know I have a wonderful defense against nature’s odd sense of humor.
