Oak Park’s main shopping district unveiled a new logo last week, along with some of its best holiday sales numbers in recent years.
After using the same purple and green insignia since the 1980s, the Downtown Oak Park business association decided it was time to liven things up, said Executive Director Pat Zubak. The new logo is decked in red lowercase letters that resemble brick pavers, she said.
Downtown Oak Park enlisted the help of Chicago-based consulting firm a5 in the effort. Zubak believes the new brand helps symbolizes the village’s walkability.
“We wanted something that’s fresh, simple and elegant,” she said. “We really felt the old one was dated, and we needed a fresh new look.”
Downtown Oak Park also released its final numbers from the organization’s shopper rewards program. The effort asks customers to submit holiday receipts totaling $400 from at least seven village stores.
Those who qualify receive $50 in downtown gift certificates to be spent at 75 different businesses in the village’s main shopping district. Altogether, shoppers submitted $574,000 worth of receipts, Zubak said, a 30-percent increase compared to the 2009 holiday season.
That could be an all-time high for the program, and the highest since Zubak joined the organization six years ago.
“I really believe the program is finally hitting its stride and taking off,” she said.
