You may know them as “media specialists” or some other made-up title intended to put a little sexy in their image. But we’ll stick with good, old-fashioned “librarian.”
And last week there was a gathering of the clan of local librarians — school and public, Oak Park and River Forest — to talk about ways they could cooperate for the good of local kids. This is an encouraging alliance.
The focus of last week’s meeting was research projects — the blood of parents goes cold at the mere mention of a research project. Could there be a universal approach? Shared software? Common expectations whether your kid is in elementary, middle or high school? Could there be a smooth handoff from the elementary school media specialist to other librarians in the two villages?
The answer seems to be yes.
Librarians are an often overlooked resource. We applaud the collaborative efforts of these professionals in support of our kids.
