Last week on this blog, we raised the issue of reinstating horsemeat as a part of the American diet. But there are many other edible critters – many other nutritional resources and perhaps even tasty bits — out there.
Take raccoons. We’ve seen them scurrying behind our garages, eyes glowing in our headlights, moving fast, barely distinguishable fur balls rolling like tumbleweeds through the alley.
For most, the raccoon is a pest or, at best, road kill. For the folks of Delafield, Wisconsin, this masked beast – one of the last surviving wild things in the Midwest — is an annual cause for celebration.
For about $10, you get the featured creature and many sides (pictured), all prepared by the good folks at the local legion hall.
The 84th Annual Tom McNulty Annual Raccoon Feed is Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Delafield American Legion Post 196, 333 N. Lapham Road, Delafield, Wisconsin. Doors open at 4PM, and I’d recommend you get there early. This is a popular event.
