Concordia University Chicago head baseball coach Spiro Lempesis was abruptly fired from his duties at the school on Sept. 27. The university would not provide specific reasons for the skipper’s termination.

“As of Monday, Spiro Lempesis was terminated as head baseball coach at Concordia University Chicago,” wrote Kimberly McCullough, the executive director of communications and marketing services at the school, in an e-mail. “Because this is a confidential personnel matter, the university will not provide comment or further information.”

McCullough did not return a phone call seeking further comment, and Jim Egan, Concordia’s sports information director, referred Wednesday Journal inquiries to McCullough.

Lempesis served as Concordia’s baseball coach for 10 years, accumulating a record of 229-182-3 in that span. The Cougars finished 31-9 under Lempesis last season.
