Peter R. DelVecchio of Benton Harbor, Mich., died quietly at home on Aug. 18, 2010. Born on Sept. 28, 1940 in New Haven, Conn., to Peter and Lucy DelVecchio, he moved to Chicago for graduate school, where he met Judith Milligan. Following a brief engagement, they were married in 1965 and resided in Oak Park, where they raised their family.
He began his career as an insurance underwriter but eventually went on to successfully manage seven Century 21 Real Estate offices simultaneously, eventually owning his own Century 21 office.
Cherished family above all, he was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed cooking, gardening and camping with his family. In addition, he was actively engaged in the Boy Scouts for 17 years, first as a Cub master and later as a Scout master for Troop 22 of Oak Park. Under his leadership, 16 boys achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
Upon their retirement to Benton Harbor, the DelVecchios enjoyed travelling throughout the United States. With much pride, they recently renewed their wedding vows after 45 years of marriage.
Peter DelVecchio is survived by his wife, Judith; his eldest son, David, his wife, Molly, and their daughter, Zoe; his daughter, Donna, her husband, Alec, and their children, Emma and Samuel; his son, Steven, and his wife, Jenni, and their children, Christopher and Kimberleigh; his brother, Frank, and his wife, Laura, and their children, Jennifer and Peter; and his brother, Richard, and his wife, Carol, and their daughter, Lisa.
A celebration of life service will be held at First United Methodist Church of St. Joseph, Mich., at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Men’s Group of First United Methodist Church of St. Joseph. Arrangements were handled by the Dey-Florin Chapel of Florin Funeral Service.
