River Forest police responded to a call about possible public indecency Saturday morning, May 22, after hearing that a man might be masturbating at the corner of Oak and Lathrop. When they arrived, they found Thomas Dulin, 22, of River Forest, who was not masturbating, but whom officers knew from previous meetings to be a drug user.
Officers searched Dulin and allegedly found two pipes, as well as 6.5 grams of marijuana. He was arrested and charged with misdemeanors for possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Auto theft, burglary, damage
A white 1968 Buick Skylark convertible was stolen from the driveway in the 1500 block of William on the morning of May 17.
A green 1996 Honda Accord that was reported missing from the 1100 block of S. Oak Park on April 24 was found in the 1000 block of S. Oak Park Ave. on the night of May 19. The owner, an Elmhurst man, was notified.
A white 1995 Honda Civic, valued at $1,000, was stolen from the 1100 block of Pleasant overnight between May 17 and May 18.
A maroon 2003 Nissan Altima, valued at $13,000, was stolen from the 300 block of South Lombard sometime between May 15 and 19.
A black Garmin GPS and a black iPod charger were stolen from a car parked in the 400 block of Lake on May 19. The driver’s side window of the victim’s car was broken, and the total loss is estimated at $500.
A 1999 Blue Mercury Villager stolen from the 100 block of Forest in Oak Park was found in Chicago early in the morning on May 21.
A silver 2010 Kia Spectra, reported stolen from the Hertz rental car agency in the 600 block of Madison in December 2009, was found by the Maywood Police near the intersection of 12th Ave. and Roosevelt on May 22. No arrests were made.
The windshield of an Oak Park Police squad car was broken sometime between the afternoon May 22 and the morning of May 23, possibly by hitting it with a glass bottle.
Theft at businesses, church, school
Floronda Fletcher, 38, of Chicago was arrested and charged with felony retail theft reportedly for taking $391.21 worth of merchandise from Jewel, 7525 Lake St., in River Forest on the evening of May 18.
Drexel Germany, 47, of Broadview, and John Marshall, 46, of West Chicago, were arrested for burglary and possession of burglary tools on the night of May 19, after a witness reported seeing them steal tools from a construction trailer in front of Unity Temple, 875 Lake St. in Oak Park. They were chased to Chicago by police, where they were arrested.
A black and purple Motorola cell phone was stolen from a backpack left unattended on a bench in the gym at Oak Park and River Forest High School on the morning of May 19. The phone was worth about $180.
A woman stole several bottles of shampoo from the CVS at Oak Park and Roosevelt, then drove away down Oak Park Ave. in a dark blue Toyota Corolla four-door on the afternoon of May 22. She was not apprehended.
A locker at the Fitness Formula Club in the 1100 block of Lake was broken into during the day on May 22, and about $610 worth of property was stolen.
Burglary and theft
A $500 Cannondale bike was stolen from a garage on the 1100 block of S. Oak Park via an unlocked side door the night on May 17.
Several video game consoles, video games and miscellaneous jewelry was stolen from a home in the 800 block of N. Humphrey, after the front door was broken down and forced open during the day on May 18. The total loss is estimated at $2,160.
A laptop, a printer, a cordless phone and a pillowcase were stolen from an apartment on the 400 block of William, River Forest, after the door was forced open midday on May 19.
Two black and silver Schwinn bikes were stolen from the garage of a home in the 600 block of N. Humphrey the night of May 19. The bikes were valued at $400.
A burglar broke a back-door window to open the door at a home in the 500 block of Franklin, River Forest, the night of May 19, stealing a $1,500 Mitsubishi TV and a $2,000 IBM laptop.
A black 46-inch Samsung TV and a jar of coins were stolen from a home in the 1100 block of S. Cuyler sometime during the day on May 20. The offender used a sharp object to cut open a window screen and then entered the home through the window. The loss is estimated at $2,004.
Two black 42-inch Philips TVs, an Xbox 360 videogame system, a Compaq laptop and an HP desktop computer worth about $2,250 were stolen from a home in the 600 block of N. Austin during the day on May 21. The offender probably entered through an unlocked window, police said.
A diamond ring was stolen from a jewelry box in a master bedroom of a home in the 1200 block of N. Taylor sometime between May 15 and May 20. The total estimated loss is $9,500.
A home in the 400 block of Lake was broken into and jewelry, a 32-inch Vizio TV, an Xbox game system, several DVDs, a black Canon camera and a Sony video camera, all valued at $1,700, were stolen sometime between May 17 and 22. The thieves entered by breaking the home’s back window, reaching through and unlocking the door.
A Giant brand bicycle, a Craftsman drill and a Ryobi drill valued at $570 were stolen from a garage in the 100 block of N. Lombard during the overnight hours of May 22 and May 23. Police say the offenders opened the garage by smashing open the window of a 2005 Volvo and taking and using the car’s garage door opener.
A lawnmower and a lawn edger valued at $850 were stolen from an open garage in the 100 block of N. Lombard the night of May 23.
DUI
Two men spotted in a car in the McDonald’s parking lot in the 100 block of Madison were arrested for using heroin on the night of May 18. Bryan Wolf, 21, of McHenry was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, and drug paraphernalia, along with the car’s driver, 22-year-old Gregory Kulik of McHenry, who was arrested for DUI.
Mary Stefanski, 62, of Norridge was stopped and arrested in the 1200 block of N. Elmwood for DUI the night of May 17. It was her birthday.
Enrique Vargas, 26, of Bolingbrook was stopped and arrested for DUI, driving with a revoked license and endangering the life of a child on Chicago near Austin on the night of May 20. He was held in lieu of bond.
Jenice Rodriguez, 26, of Berwyn, was charged with DUI early in the morning on May 21, at Van Buren near Austin.
Miguel Jiminez, 29, was arrested at William and North Avenue, River Forest, and charged with aggravated DUI for a blood alcohol level over .08 early in the morning on May 22.
John C. Turi, 40, of Chicago was charged with DUI early in the morning on May 23 at Chicago and Monroe.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Oak Park and River Forest police departments May 17-May 24. Not all incidents that occurred are listed. Anyone named in reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
