No, those octagonal red signs you see all over town say CROP, not STOP. The first Sunday in May is always the day set aside for Hunger Walkathon West, aka the CROP Walk, which steps off from the Pilgrim Congregational Church parking lot, Scoville and Lake, at 2 p.m. Seventy-five percent of the funds raised go to Church World Service (with an emphasis this year on Haiti relief) while 25 percent stays local, benefiting the following:

  • Cluster Tutoring Program
  • Columbus Park Food Pantry
  • Forest Park Food Pantry
  • OP-RF Food Pantry
  • OP-RF Walk-in Ministry
  • Pine Avenue Food Pantry
  • Proviso Food Pantry
  • St. Eulalia Food Pantry
  • West Suburban PADS

If you want to donate or get involved, call Pat Eichenold, 848-5415 or visit www.oakparkhungercropwalk.org.

In case you always wondered (like us), CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty.
