The Illinois Department of Transportation is once again considering widening the Eisenhower Expressway. They are holding an open house on their new study. Please attend to let them know your concerns.
The open house will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the Best Western in Hillside, 4400 North Frontage Road, from 4 to 8 p.m. You can come anytime, but plan to spend at least an hour.
You know your concerns better than anyone else. The better IDOT understands the problems, the better the final design.
Here are some points for you to consider:
Making high-occupancy vehicle lanes work on the Eisenhower Expressway will be difficult.
If IDOT considers bus rapid transit on high-occupansy lanes, it would compete with the CTA Blue Line and three Metra commuter lines.
Commuters in DuPage and Kane counties going to downtown Chicago jobs cause a lot of the growth in demand. Having these commuters come through the suburbs on an extended CTA Blue Line or a Metra commuter rail line is a good option to consider.
IDOT usually focuses on three evaluation criteria: roadway capacity, safety and construction cost. Although these criteria are relevant, there are developmental, social, economic and environmental criteria as well.
What properties will IDOT want to acquire?
