On consecutive nights from Monday, Nov. 2, through Wednesday, Nov. 4, Oak Park police reported three armed robberies, two of which involved handguns.
Wednesday night around 10 p.m., an Oak Park man walking in the alley behind the 700 block of S. Maple was attacked by two men who jumped out of a car parked on Adams. One of the men ran up behind the man and punched him in the back of the head. When the victim fought back, the assailant produced a chrome semiautomatic handgun and took the man’s cellphone and $80 cash. The two thieves then got back into their car and drove off.
Around 11 p.m. Monday night, a man in the parking lot behind a Laundromat on the first block of Chicago Avenue was punched from behind and knocked to the ground. When he got up and turned around, another man punched him again, drew a small dark handgun and rifled through the victim’s pockets, taking his wallet, which contained $92. The thief then ran off down the alley.
Tuesday afternoon around 5 p.m., an Oak Park boy walking on the 1100 block of N. East Avenue was approached from behind by two young men, one of whom displayed a knife. They took the boy’s iPod and cellphone, then ran off.
