One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Schlemeel, Schlemazel, Hasenpfeffer Incorporated. We’re gonna do it!

Why did this old sitcom jingle come into my head as I sat down to write a column about the OPRF football team?

Give us any chance, we’ll take it

Give us any rule, we’ll break it

We’re gonna make our dreams come true

Doin’ it our way

Stop it, please, I’m begging you! … It must have something to do with how the Huskies overcame the odds, shucked the doubters and rolled into the playoffs for the first time since 2006.

Nothin’s gonna turn us back now,

Straight ahead and on the track now

We’re gonna make our dreams come true,

Doin’ it our way!

The season opening loss to Glenbard North was supposed to leave the Huskies questioning their resolve.

There is nothing we won’t try,

Never heard the word impossible

This time there’s no stopping us

We’re gonna do it

The loss of starting running back Dorion Grant in Game 2 to a broken leg should have left them overwhelmed by fear.

On your mark, get set and go now,

Got a dream and we just know now,

We’re gonna make our dream come true

They should have been blubbering in the arms of their mothers after the controversial loss in double-overtime to sixth-ranked Hinsdale Central.

And we’ll do it our way, yes our way

Make all our dreams come true

They won three straight games to close out the regular season and turned the 2009 campaign into a successful one.

And do it our way, yes our way,

Make all our dreams come true

You’d think this football team would deserve a much better theme song.

For me and you

Believe you me, right now I’m trying my darndest to make that happen. Think Rocky anthem, brain, think Rocky anthem.

For me and you

I apologize, Huskies. I apologize.
