Dr. Jeffrey A. Kreyer from Oak Park is among the 66 physicians in the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine’s class of 2009 who were conferred degrees in Springfield on May 16.
Kreyer was in the 1994 Oak Park and River Forest High School graduating class; he also received a bachelor’s degree in cell and structural biology and psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1999 and a master’s degree in cell and molecular biology from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2004. He is the son of Oak Parkers Lester and Ruth Kreyer and is married to April (Hlad) Kreyer.
Looking up
University of Nebraska-Lincoln freshman Samuel Colin, a River Forest resident, was placed on the Dean’s List for academic excellence. Colin is majoring in finance and earned a spot on the Dean’s List for his 2008-09 fall semester academic achievements. A minimum grade point average of 3.5 out of 4.0 is necessary to be placed on the list.
Elmhurst, cum laude
Oak Park’s Myron Taylor and River Forest residents Ludilyn Brownlow, Jarred Nordhus and Alexander Wiesner were among the 175 members of the midyear class of 2009 to graduate from Elmhurst College. Taylor received a bachelor of sciences in business administration; Brownlow, a bachelor of sciences in biology; and Nordhus, a bachelor of sciences in business administration, magna cum laude for the maintenance of a GPA between 3.7 and 3.899. Wiesner earned a bachelor of arts in political science, cum laude for a consistent grade point average between 3.5 and 3.699.
Making the grade
Oak Park and River Forest High School graduate, and Oak Park native, Craig Evan Winkels, the son of Oak Park resident Kathy Weiss was named to the Hampden-Sydney College Dean’s List for the second semester of the 2008-2009 academic year. Students must maintain a minimum 3.3 grade point average out of a possible 4.0 to be placed on the list.
Hampden-Sydney is a private men’s college in Hampden-Sydney, Va., that has built its reputation around its structured liberal arts curriculum and a smaller, more nurturing academic environment.
It’s over at Villanova
Mattthew Day McFolling of Oak Park graduated from Villanova University during a commencement ceremony held on May 17 in Villanova Stadium. McFolling earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications.
High honors
Two students from Oak Park were recently placed on Skidmore College’s Dean’s List for the 2008-09 spring semester.
Both Claire Saxe, daughter of Oak Park residents Peter and Jane Saxe, and Rivkah Gevinson, daughter of Steve Gevinson and Berit Engen of Oak Park, received highest honors for attaining a grade point average between 3.670 and 4.0.
Located in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Skidmore College is a co-educational, liberal arts college that enrolls approximately 2,400 students.
