Trimail C. Clay, 18, of Chicago and a 16-year-old Chicago boy were arrested May 20 and charged with the burglary of a home on the 100 block of N. Humphrey. Clay had also been arrested May 14 for criminal trespass to land and released on a $30,000 personal recognizance bond.

Police continue to treat Clay and the juvenile as suspects in several other burglaries. All the burglaries involved breaking rear windows or rear-door windows during the day May 19. Various electronics valued in total at $3,750 were stolen from a home on the 400 block of S. Kenilworth. A home next door was entered during the same period in the same manner, and jewelry valued at $420 stolen.

That same afternoon, four blocks east on the 400 block of S. Wesley, thieves entered a third home through an unlocked rear bathroom window and stole $2,225 in household electronics. A neighboring house showed signs of attempted entry, but wasn’t burglarized.

“We’re still trying to track down property,” said Det. Commander Len Jorgenson. “We’re going with the premise it’s the same guys. It’s all in the same corridor.”

Eddie L. Fowler, 26, was arrested the night of May 22 after he matched the description of a man who took a bike from a residence on the 300 block of Chicago Ave. Fowler was also allegedly in possession of a credit card stolen from the home, as well as a 4-inch pipe used to smoke drugs.

The afternoon of May 25, neighbors in the 700 block of N. Lombard saw a suspicious man dragging a large green garbage can in a rear yard. Police stopped the 16-year-old Chicago boy a block away. Meanwhile, police interviewing witnesses determined the neighbor’s home had been burglarized. A search of the area then turned up the garbage can, which was loaded with proceeds from the burglary.

A rather rare night residential burglary occurred between 11:30 p.m. May 18 and 12:30 a.m. on the 200 block of S. Grove. Thieves apparently entered through an unlocked rear door and stole a 46-inch television set, a purse, a laptop computer and two sets of car and house keys. They then stole a minivan from the garage. The van was recovered around 11 p.m. the next night on the West Side.

Burglars entered a home on the 700 block of Randolph through an unlocked window during the day May 22 and stole a 37-inch television set.

A cinderblock was used to break a basement window at the Stevenson Center, 49 Lake overnight May 20. A table and a computer were damaged during the break-in. A second computer, also damaged, was found in the bushes outside the window. Total loss was $3,400.

A residence on the 200 block of Washington was entered by unknown means during the day May 22. A laptop computer and iPod valued in total of $2.100 were stolen.

Burglars entered a residence on the 600 block of Washington through an unlocked door during the day May 24. Various household electronics valued at $1,900 and $30 cash were stolen.

The rear-door window of an apartment on the first block of Washington was broken between May 22 and May 25 and various household electronics valued at $2,290 were stolen.

Robbery

Oak Park police are investigating several robberies committed last week. A man who entered 7-Eleven at 240 Chicago Ave. around 11 p.m. May 19 walked to the counter, displayed a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded money. When the clerk handed him the cash drawer, the thief grabbed a fistful of bills, then reached up and took several packs of cigarettes. Total loss was estimated at $350.

The evening of May 22 a man entered a garage on the first block of LeMoyne through the open overhead door, pointed a silver semi-automatic handgun at the owner and demanded money. When the homeowner said he didn’t have any money on him, the robber walked him inside his house, where the man took $225 from his wallet and turned it over to the thief, who fled.

Around 9 p.m. May 21, three boys in their early teens confronted an Oak Park boy on the 200 block of Lake. When the boy used his cellphone to tell them the time, one of them grabbed the phone. Another then asked to use his iPod. When the boy refused, one of the boys punched him in the face. The boy then managed to run away from his assailants.

The afternoon of May 24, three Chicago boys were arrested after being identified as the thieves who pushed an Oak Park boy off his bike and stole it.

Theft

Edward C. West, 40, of Chicago was stopped by store staff the afternoon of May 21 after he allegedly left Walgreens at 6412 Roosevelt with numerous stolen items.

Andy Gonzales, 33, of Northlake, was allegedly observed by a River Forest officer inside a fenced-off area on the 1100 block of Westgate attempting to remove a 10-gallon container filled with copper and brass fittings and copper tubing. 

A Broadview boy was arrested on the 600 block of N. Austin the afternoon of May 19 after he was identified as the person who grabbed a cellphone from the hands of a commuter on a Blue Line train at the Austin station.

Battery

Twin 18-year-old brothers Hakeem and Rakeem Scatton, of the 700 block of S. Euclid were charged with aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest after they became combative as police were breaking up an under-aged drinking party on the 1100 block of Washington May 23. Police say Rakeem injured an officer while being placed under arrest, and then Hakeem attacked several officers placing hand cuffs on Rakeem.

Parrish Young, 40, of Chicago was arrested the evening of May 21 on the first block of Lake for allegedly punching an Oak Park man in the face.

Tamar Hendricks, 43, of Chicago, was arrested the evening of May 21 for allegedly punching his girlfriend in the face and shoving her against a wall, despite her having a court order of protection.

Vehicle, garage burglary

Overnight May 18, a stereo and 50 CDs were stolen from a car on the 500 block of N. Lombard.

That same night, a bike valued at $200 was stolen from an unlocked car on the 500 block of Linden.

Overnight May 19 thieves broke the window of a car on the 1100 block of Washington and stole a GPS device.

Overnight May 21 the window of a car on the 1150 block of S. Grove was broken into and a GPS device and radar detector were stolen.

Outside warrant

Marcus H. Dixon, 42, of the 700 block of Randolph, who was observed standing outside an apartment building there, allegedly had a replica BB gun in his waistband. A name check also determined he was wanted on a Cook County sheriff’s arrest warrant for violation of his conditional release on a domestic battery charge.

DUI

William Roberson, 26, of Chicago allegedly drove his car onto a lawn on the 700 block of S. Oak Park Ave. around 11 p.m. May 20. Police say they found Roberson, whose license was revoked, was unconscious behind the wheel, along with a nearly empty bottle of vodka and a half full quart of malt liquor. He was charged with his third aggravated DUI.

These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Oak Park and River Forest police departments from May18-May 25. Not all incidents that occurred are listed. Anyone named in reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
