I am writing to support Terry Finnegan in his campaign for District 200 school board. Terry has a sound mind, is a patient leader, and possesses the skill set and temperament necessary to provide solid leadership for the policy-shaping arm of Dist. 200. When I recently met with Terry to discuss his candidacy, he explained his position that Oak Park and River Forest are blessed to have a strong group of teachers and terrific administrators already in place, emphasizing that the job of the board is to provide them direction and get out of their way.
During the course of our discussion, Terry directed our conversation to one of the most complex personal and societal issues confronting the board today, the achievement gap. Terry strongly believes that the cause of the gap is multifaceted, and the solution must be multifaceted. His goal, he explained, is to create a “culture of achievement for all students,” emphasizing that it will take a multi-pronged approach to solve the gap. Throughout the course of our conversation, it dawned on me how gracious, patient, and extremely approachable Terry is when it comes to addressing these matters, something that I believe will serve him, the board, and the community very well as we look to solve the challenges ahead.
In addition, Terry holds 20 years experience in the financial world, which will be invaluable as the board seeks to address financial matters in a meaningful and socially responsible way. I wholeheartedly support Terry Finnegan for Dist. 200 school board … and so should you.
