This is a response to Eileen Fein’s suggestion [School and park boards should televise meetings, Viewpoints, June 13] that more meetings of our public bodies be broadcast on community television.

I have learned over the years to view VMA-backed initiatives in our village with a certain skepticism, as they often seem to reflect more of the interests of developers and construction companies than those of most residents.

Yet I must applaud the VMA campaign to televise the meetings of the local school boards. I can think of no better way to inform the citizens of our town about the workings and shortcomings of our organs of democracy.

What a great idea. What entertainment. What an informed public this could bring about!

I can see it now: On TV, there’s the District 200 school board, live on camera. There’s “Terrible Terry” Burke denouncing the school’s failure to seriously address the achievement gap. There’s board member John Rigas pompously denoucing the latest leaflet denouncing the board. There’s Wyanetta Johnson in her warm-hearted way, pleading for more understanding.

Who needs soap operas when we have “District 200 Live” on TV?  Go for it!
