Former OPRF High School athlete Ricky Foytik earned his first save of the season as a relief pitcher for North Central College. The Cardinals posted a 5-3 record at the Port Charlotte Invitational a few weeks ago. Foytik pitched 9.1 innings in relief throughout the tournament and earned his first save of the season against University of the South.

Lund on the mound at Seton

OPRF High School graduate Maura Lund, who earned All-State honors as a pitcher for the Huskies in 2004, began her junior year as one of Seton Hall Academy’s top pitchers. Prior to the beginning of this season Lund, who tossed seven no-hitters and 24 shutouts in 35 career starts at OPRF, held a record of 7-6 with an ERA of 4.54 in two years at Seton.

Local gymnasts
compete at state

The Oak Park Gymnastics Center sent 26 boys to the 2007 USA Gymnastics Illinois Boys State Championships. The gymnasts qualified for the state championships based on scores during the regular gymnastics season. Qualifying Level 4 boys included Joseph Babbo, Owen Baldwin, Wesley Cheatham, Tyler Heggans, Tanner Iske, George Lagios, Liam O’Malley, Linus Shaw and Nicholas Shaw. Qualifying Level 5 boys included Jack Bergey, Max Gonzalez, Cameron Moore, Jack O’Brien and Gib Traczyk. Qualifying Level 6 boys included Daniel Johnson, Nigel Renfroe, Max Showalter, Sullivan Stewart and Lee Werner. Qualifying Level 7 boys included Gabe Badding, Sam Fourman, Andrew McCabe and Alek Pedersen. Qualifying Level 8 boys included Miles Gillenwater, Matt McCabe and Jonathon Smith.

Additionally, Fourman, Gillenwater, A. McCabe, M. McCabe, Renfroe, Showalter, Smith, and Stewart have qualified for the Region V Championships which will be held in Battle Creek, Mich., on April 14-15.

ACORN Academy to begin

The Spring session of OPRF Strikers’ ACORN Soccer Academy starts April 6th. Registration has begun. The professional, licensed coaches from OPRF Striker’s Traveling Soccer Club do the training for this eight-week “camp-like” program held on
