Justin Olson allowed one run on a solo homer in two innings of relief last week. He is leading his team, Double-A New Britain of the Eastern League, in innings pitched (72 2/3), wins (six), and strikeouts (63).
Fenwick graduate and 2004 draftee Mike Santoro made his pro debut Thursday with Salem-Keizer, San Francisco’s affiliate in the short-season Northwest League. Batting seventh and playing right field, Santoro went 0-for-4 but reached base on an error in the Volcanoes’ loss to Tri-City.
Moving one step closer to the big leagues, Vasili Spanos was promoted to Double-A Midland of the Texas League Thursday and hit a solo homer in his debut with the RockHounds. Spanos had RBIs in each of his first three games in the new league, going 2-for-8 with a sac fly. To earn the promotion, he batted .315 with nine homers and 56 RBIs in 68 games with Single-A Stockton.
Blake Whealy homered twice and had six hits last week to raise his average to .245 for the Single-A St. Lucie Mets. Whealy had sat out seven of eight games before playing in five straight last week. He has seven homers and 20 RBIs in 54 games.
