The Fenwick High School football team won its first state championship in program history on Nov. 27, defeating Kankakee 34-15 in the IHSA Class 5A title game at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
The Friars (12-2) jumped out to a 28-0 lead late in the first half, putting the Kays (13-1) in a hole from which they wouldn’t escape .
Quarterback Kaden Cobb led Fenwick, throwing for three touchdowns and rushing for a fourth. Defensively, linebacker Martin Paris had two sacks and an interception.
