The Learning Center

What does your business do?

The Learning League is a community-oriented educational company. It is a place where high school students have a chance to be leaders in their community and share their academic experience. Tutees have a mentor from the community who is closer to their age and can better relate to what they need for  success in their academic future!

What is “super” about your business?  Why is it special?

The Learning League is “super” because we have “super” young adults wanting to give back to a community that gave them so much. This “super” league of tutors makes The Learning League so incredible.

Tell us a bit about yourself…

When I’m not using my super powers to teach, you can find me walking my two little dogs, using my amaetuer skills landscaping, sitting on my front porch with my husband or spending as much with my 15 year olds as they allow!

If you could pick a superpower, what would it be?

If I could pick any superpower, it would be the power to be in multiple places at the same time! I am slowly sharing my tasks and surrounding myself with other superheroes like Annie Planek my tutor and marketing manager.

Why did you choose to invest in our community?

I live in Oak Park, have kids who have gone through D97 and now are at OPRFHS and have taught in D97 schools. We live in an incredible village! The Oak Park/River Forest area has such a unique and supportive atmosphere and I am honored to serve OPRF families.

What local organizations have you been able to support in the past?

We are happy to give out Learning League packages to foundations, schools and local businesses. The Learning League has donated to most district 97 elementary school fundraisers, Wonder Works, OPRFHS Booster Club and the Hemingway Foundation.

What’s the weirdest thing you sell or offer? Or have their been any odd customer requests?

We really do not have anything weird to sell or offer…though we did, at one time, sell Scooby Doo treats after school snacks to hungry students. Though they were graham crackers- so it is pretty lame. We will work on this!

Name three of your favorite local businesses (besides yourself, of course!)

I love Rustico. We actually had our wedding dinner there when it first opened. I take all my girlfriends to Altiro for the best cocktails and tasty small plates. 16 Suitcases is my go to local boutique. And yes- this is four , but the BookTable rocks. I am old fashioned when it comes to reading, and if they do not have the book I am looking for, they always order it for me!
