Good news coming from Fannie Mae

There’s hope that the country’s largest mortgage lender will soon back off from its use of ZIP codes to tighten lending, says Rob Breymaier, executive director of the Oak Park Regional Housing Center. Breymaier, whose office recently circulated a petition protesting the Federal National Mortgage Association’s broad-brush rating of many ZIP codes-including some in Oak Park and most of northeastern Illinois-traveled to Washington, D.C., on March 14 with leaders of other fair housing organizations to challenge recent changes in Fannie Mae’s underwriting policies.
