Mattress Firm was founded in 1986 in Houston, Texas and has grown to acquire brands including Sleepy's and Sleep Train. The company offers a wide selection of mattress brands and manufacturers, such as Dream Bed, Simmons, Hampton & Rhodes and Serta. In addition to mattresses, Mattress Firm also offers a selection of bed sets, chairs and sofa and bed and mattress accessories.

Mattress Firm is the newest opening in Berwyn Gateway Plaza Phase II. The project is a complete renovation of the commercial block on the north side of Cermak Road between Maple Ave and Wisconsin Ave. Starbucks was the first store to open in late 2015. In 2016, Blaze Fast-Fire'd Pizza, Fifth Third Bank and Sprint Connect, LLC opened in the shopping center. The project will welcome City Barbeque later this month and another retailer in the near future. With the success of both Phase I and Phase II, a third phase of development is already underway with commitments from Panera Bread and Comcast Xfinity, along an additional 2,418 sf of space which is being actively marketed for lease.

The completion of Phase II of redevelopment created an additional 18,357 sf of new retail property within the City of Berwyn, adding new tax revenue and creating jobs at this increasingly popular intersection of town. Phase I—which included Buffalo Wild Wings, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Verizon Wireless, Five Guys Burgers and Fries and the Vitamin Shoppe—created 19,910 sf of new retail, while Phase III will create 9,400 sf.

Store Manager Dereck Rice said, "Moving into this new space has been an amazing experience. We couldn't be happier with the look and feel of our location and are happy to continue servicing the Berwyn community. Thank you for all of your support!"

"We're thrilled to have Mattress Firm as a part of Berwyn Gateway Plaza and look forward to watching your business continue to grow," said BDC Board Vice President Andy Sotiropoulos.

"Berwyn Gateway Plaza is an exciting location for many of our Berwyn businesses. We've been hard at work on this corner of town and are happy to welcome Mattress Firm to its new home. Thank you for remaining here in Berwyn, we're here to assist you however possible," said Mayor Robert J. Lovero.
