Last week, Republicans gathered at Bar Louie to watch Mitt Romney at the Republican Convention. This week, supporters of Barack Obama will gather at FitzGerald's, 6615 W. Roosevelt Road in Berwyn (Clarence and Roosevelt) to watch the president's convention speech. Festivities begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, with a $5 donation/cover.

The debates (three presidential, one VP) will also be televised at FitzGerald's in October. And an Oct. 4 fundraiser for the Obama campaign is being planned as well.

The debates should include anyone who has qualified to be on enough state ballots to win. This would mean that the Libertarians and the Greens should be in the debates. Jill Stein the Green Party candidate has also qualified for federal matching funds. The debates are currently controlled by the Ds and Rs and it was fairer when the League of Woman Voters was in charge.
