Oak Parker Max Showalter, a soon-to-be freshman at Fenwick High School, recently competed at the U.S. Diving National Championship in Knoxville, Tenn.

Showalter placed ninth overall in the 14-15 age group of the one-meter springboard. The 14-year-old won the Illinois State Diving Association Championships in the same event earlier in June.

On the three-meter springboard, he placed 16th overall. Two weeks prior, Showalter qualified for one-meter and three-meter springboard at the Zone Championships held at the University of Missouri.

The entire field of competitors at nationals was treated to the opportunity to practice with Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis, who showed up to the early practice sessions.

Showalter is a member of the Windy City Dive Club and will compete for Fenwick High School this coming season.

Max Showalter is not only a very good athlete but quite a nice young man. He is a very polite, enthusiastic person who brings out that quality character that is often missing from many of our youth these days. Way to dive in there Max.
