Six tutors from Fenwick High School last Friday took part in the International Writing Centers Association/National Conference on Peer Tutoring in Writing Conference, taking place in Baltimore.
The tutors gave a presentation “Bridging the Gap: Easing writers’ transitions between high school and college.” The subject stemmed from a collaborative between Fenwick, 505 W. Washington in Oak Park, and the Writing Center at the University of Notre Dame. Members of the university’s writing center also took part in the presentation.
The Fenwick tutors’ initial collaboration with Notre Dame inspired two questions: “What is the nature of the gap between high school and college-level writing?” and “How can we go about bridging that gap?”
Fenwick’s presenters were Calie Gihl (Elmhurst), Kelsey Kelliher (LaGrange), Elizabeth Lombard (Western Springs), Esther Owolabi (Westchester), Julie Tentler (Clarendon Hills), and Mike Trucco (River Forest).
