Our shrimpy Dominick's stores

With no buyers on the immediate horizon for our two local Dominick's locations, we were wondering how the store on North Avenue in River Forest and on Lake Street in Oak Park shaped up in terms of size and desirability.

Low and behold, Micah Maidenberg, our former colleague and now a real estate reporter for Crain's, provided the answers on the front page of Crain's Nov. 18 edition.

The River Forest store has long been seen as small and obsolete. It is actually the smallest store in the Dominick's chain at 28,220 square feet. Surprised though that the Oak Park store at 45,133 square feet is the fifth smallest Dominick's.

So how big is big? Crain's says the biggest Dominick's is in Lake Zurich and measures 77,303 square feet.

Now I'm surprised. Has Dan Haley never ventured beyond the boundaries of Oak Park? There are many Dominick's stores (including one less then 4 miles away on Thatcher Ave in River Grove) that are spacious. Oak Park may be a good place to live but its not the only place on the planet.
