After a lengthy delay that left the girls swim team without a place to practice or compete at home during the fall season, OPRF's pools recently reopened.

The pools had been closed since the summer due to a contractor failing to get proper permits before doing work on a drainage system.

The pools were opened Jan. 5. The OPRF boys swim team has been competing on the road and practicing at such locations as Leyden and Morton East high schools during the closure.

"Yes, we are back up and running," said OPRF swim coach Peter Quinn, who, in his 18 years coaching the Huskies, has never opened a season without the use of a home pool.

A home meet on Jan. 28 against Downers Grove North will take place as scheduled.

The Huskies lost to Hinsdale Central 108-78 on Friday. John Verticchio won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.81 seconds, while Mark Hallman took first in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:54.14.
