West Suburban Medical Center, 3 Erie Court, is celebrating 100 years of serving Oak Park and surrounding communities on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“I am honored to be the leader of this tremendous institution,” said West Suburban CEO Patrick Maloney during an on-camera video shoot with Wednesday Journal in August. “It is so special and exciting to meet the staff and physicians that have been here over 10, 20, some over 30 years.”

Those who attend the free centennial event can learn about the history of the hospital, past and future of modern surgery, how childbirth has changed over the last 100 years and family medicine programs in individual presentations starting at the top of each hour between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

In addition to the presentations, the da Vinci Surgical System will be on display, there will be contests, raffles, giveaways as well as refreshments.

Organizers of the event invite anyone born at West Suburban as well as former and current nurses to join hospital staff for reunion photos at the front of the hospital at 1 p.m. and 1:45 p.m., respectively.

“There is something special about West Suburban.” said Maloney, “When people come they just don’t want to leave.”
