Serial playwright

Oak Parker Michael Bassett recently had four of his short plays produced at the Theatre Building Chicago, presented by 13Carat Productions. The short plays were produced on a bill called 4Play, which was intended to show several examples of the playwright’s work in order to reveal signature elements of his style.

MacDowell scholars

The MacDowell Artists Association recently awarded music scholarships to outstanding local high school students who plan to pursue music study in college. Tied for fifth place were mezzo soprano Emily Goldberg of River Forest and clarinetist Melissa Elie of Oak Park. Violinist David Rubin of Oak Park won third place. The first place winner was oboist Zoe Hilbert of Oak Park. (6/30/08)

Employee assistance

Long-time Oak Park resident Chet Taranowski, president of the Northern Illinois Employee Assistance Professionals Association (NIEAPA), recently opened the 30th Anniversary Conference of NIEAPA in Hoffman Estates. Taranowski has worked with Aon Services Corporation in employee assistance for 17 years and earlier served at a series of psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment centers.

Fine arts scholars

The Oak Park Area Arts Council recently announced its 2008 Fine Arts Scholarship Winners. They are Rachel Baiman, who will study violin at Vanderbilt University; Merril Marie Doty, who will study dance at Goucher College; Melissa Elie, who will study clarinet at Oberlin College; Taylor Feldman, who will study art and environmental studies at Evergreen State College; Rachel Foran, who will study studio art and international relations at Carleton College; Lorne Jon-Daniel Golman, who will study television broadcasting at Indiana University; Keeley Blaine Morris, who will study dance at Columbia College Chicago; David Rubin, who will study violin at Lawrence University; Katherine Spear, who will study classical voice at the University of Michigan; and Charles Kahn, who will study jazz saxophone and clarinet at the University of Illinois, Champaign Urbana.
