Two homes a couple blocks from each other on Ashland Avenue have gone on the market in River Forest for upwards of $4 million.

The six-bedroom, 10,528-square-foot home at 1000 Ashland has been on the market for 26 days at $4.5 million.

Built in 1926, the three story Colonial-style house features a private pool, hot tub, stone patio and deck in addition to a nine-car garage. That's right, nine.

A little further south, the home of Alan Smiley, founder of the electrostatic painting company A. Smiley Co., at 846 Ashland, is for sale for $5.2 million.

In addition to four bedrooms, a sauna and hot tub, the 6,000-square-foot home harbors a number of taxidermy animals. Some of the animal heads are mounted on the walls just below beamed and/or vaulted ceilings. Some are on mantels. And still others are near stairways and on flight landings.

The home, which has been on the market for 35 days, also features a two-bedroom coach house, pool, gym and outdoor train set. Rideable.
