Marc, your editorial cartoon depicts perfectly the very message that Wayne Franklin delivered to representatives of the superintendent search firm at a meeting earlier this month. According to a stakeholder present at the meeting, Franklin told the representatives that it is imperative that candidates for the superintendent position at OPRF pledge full support for the proposed 40-meter pool. Franklin may have been present at the meeting to represent the Huskies Booster Club, of which he is this year's president, but he is also a member of the pool lobby and was one of the two people who filed the failed legal objection to the Petition for Referendum last December. Franklin and the rest of the pool lobby desperately wanted to suppress our right to vote on the major capital project and push through the Mercedes of pools, a $37.5 million, 50-meter, Olympic-size pool that would have been built on the garage site, demolishing the 12-year old garage, and eliminating all school and community parking.
