I applaud Wednesday Journal and the League of Women Voters for their efforts to hold the Triton College Board of Trustees accountable (“Does Triton Violate Open Meetings?” Aug. 23). It is appalling that this board flagrantly violates Illinois State law by holding secret meetings that should be public and systematically ignoring the required format of meetings. I for one would like to know what the Triton board is doing. I paid $233.18 last year in taxes to Triton College, and I have a right to know how they are spending my money.

The most shocking aspect of this story to me, however, was the statement by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, that they simply do not enforce the laws that regulate the Triton board. Who else is supposed to enforce these laws? If there is an entire body of laws that the State of Illinois officially declines to enforce, I would like to see this list. Who decides which laws will be ignored? Does the Illinois Attorney General decline to enforce only those laws that regulate government corruption? In any case, I need to know which laws I can stop obeying with impunity.
