An unknown offender, described as a white or Hispanic male between 18 and 25 years old, of average weight, with black hair and a white bandana covering his face, entered a business located on the 6500 block of Roosevelt at just after 7 p.m., Aug. 5 and displayed a silver semi-automatic handgun with black grips.

The offender held the weapon to the cashier’s face and stated, “Give me the money! Quit playing around and gimme the money!” The cashier gave the offender approximately $120 from the register and the offender left the store, fleeing northbound in the east parking lot and then westbound in the alley north of Roosevelt. Estimated loss is $120.

Theft

An unknown offender removed the copper coil from an industrial air-conditioning unit at the River Forest Park District garage on the 7800 block of Lake, Aug. 1-2. Estimated loss is between $1,200 and $6,000.

Someone removed two large Dewalt drills and one 4-inch Bosch grinder from a garage on the 400 block of William, River Forest, on Aug. 5. Estimated loss is more than $500.

An unknown offender removed a lawn jockey statue with a lantern from the front yard of a residence on the 1400 block of Ashland, July 31-Aug. 3. Estimated loss is $1,500.

Someone removed a catalytic converter from a Jeep Grand Cherokee parked on the 700 block of N. Humphrey, July 29-30. Estimated loss is $300.

An unknown offender removed miscellaneous clothing items from the dryers in the laundry room at an apartment complex located on the 400 block of S. Taylor, Aug. 1-2. Loss is unknown.

An unknown offender removed five copper downspouts from a residence on the 600 block of Lyman, July 30-Aug. 2. Loss is unknown.

Someone removed $1,400 in cash from a secured locker at a location on the 1100 block of Lake St. on Aug. 3.

An unknown offender removed a red 20-inch boys Schwinn Aerostar 201 bicycle from the rear yard on the 1100 block of S. Scoville on Aug. 5. Estimated loss is $168.

Someone cut a lock by unknown means to remove a red, black and white boys Specialized/Hardrock bicycle from a location on the 400 block of Lake St. on Aug. 5. Estimated loss is $460.

Someone defeated the lock that secured several bicycles to a rack at a location on the 1000 block of Lake St. on Aug. 4 and removed a black Haro 20-inch BMX-style bicycle and a blue Avigo 20-inch BMX-style bicycle. Estimated loss is $550.

An unknown offender removed a purple and white girls bicycle from underneath the front porch of a residence on the 800 block of Clinton, Aug. 4-5. Estimated loss is $50.

Someone approached a victim on the 300 block of Garfield and asked if he had a working cellphone. The victim replied that he did, and handed the phone to the offender, who then went to his vehicle for a phone number and fled the scene with the phone, headed southbound on Harvey. The vehicle is described as a red four-door BMW. Estimated loss is $219.

Purse snatching

An unknown offender approached a victim while she was walking with her daughter on the 7200 block of Oak, River Forest, in the evening on Aug. 6. The offender ran towards the victim, grabbing her purse. The victim’s fingers were caught in the strap, causing her to fall to the ground. The offender then jumping through the passenger side window of a red, 4-door vehicle which fled the scene. No loss was reported.

Retail theft arrest

Dana Durrenberger, 28, of the 2400 block of Rhodes in River Grove, was arrested for retail theft and battery, at a location on the 6600 block of Roosevelt on Aug. 2.

Criminal damage to property

Leslie K. Morris, 19, and Kendrick Williams, 24, both of the 5000 block of W. Gladys in Chicago, were arrested at a location on the first block of Washington on Aug. 2 for attempted theft from auto, unlawful damage to a motor vehicle, and criminal damage to property.

Burglary arrest

A male juvenile from Chicago was arrested at a location on the 700 block of Garfield on Aug. 5 and charged with two counts of burglary, theft by possession, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest and curfew violation. The subject was later turned over to the custody of a parent.

Residential burglary

An unknown offender forced entry into a residence on the 800 block of Wesley on Aug. 5 through the rear door. Once inside, the offender ransacked the living room, basement and two second-floor bedrooms. The offender removed three televisions, two 17-inch laptop computers, a pearl necklace, and other miscellaneous jewelry. Estimated loss is $5,475.

Someone gained entry to a residence on the 1200 block of N. Taylor on Aug. 7 and removed a Gateway laptop and an Apple iPod. Estimated loss is $750.

Criminal damage to state-supported land

An unknown offender damaged the Mann School property on the 900 block of Kenilworth, Aug. 5-6. The offender damaged an upstairs double pane window, the door knob to the school roof entrance, and threw a cinder block through a door window in an attempt to gain access to the school. Estimated loss due to damage is unknown.

Theft from person arrest

A male juvenile from Chicago was charged with theft from person after police were able to identify the subject from surveillance footage of the incident, which occurred on Aug. 5 on the 200 block of Lake St. The subject was turned over to the custody of a parent.

These items were obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, Aug. 2-8, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
